Drop is built to hold as little about you as it can. Messages to people outside your circle are deleted from our servers once they have been read. We do not use analytics, we do not track you, we run no advertising, and we do not sell or share your information with anyone for their own purposes.
Your phone number is never shown to somebody who has not kept you, and it is never attached to an offering.

Your number is your account. We need it to sign you in, and to let people who already have it in their address book find you. It is stored for as long as your account exists.
Whatever you put on your profile. This is shown to people in your circle and to people who see your offerings.
If you allow it, the app sends the phone numbers from your contacts to our server so we can tell you which of them already use Drop. We do not store them. They are compared against existing accounts and discarded in the same request. We never write them down, never build a social graph from them, and never contact anybody on your behalf.
You can refuse this permission and keep using Drop. You will just have to add people by number instead.
Our server carries your messages and stops holding them once they arrive. Specifically:
What is kept on your own phone stays on your phone. There is no backup of it anywhere, which is also why reinstalling the app loses your history.
If you turn on notifications we store a device token so we can send them. You can turn them off at any time in your phone settings.
If you block somebody we record that, so we can keep enforcing it. If you report somebody we keep the report, what it was about, and anything you wrote in it, because a person needs to read it and it has to outlive whatever was reported. Reports are kept even after the thing they were about is deleted.
Our support account, Tara, can answer common questions automatically. When that is switched on, the text of a message you send to Tara is sent to a third-party language model (Anthropic) to produce a reply. This applies only to messages you send to that one account. It never applies to conversations between you and another person, which we cannot read and do not send anywhere.

Each of these only receives what it needs to do its job. None of them is permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings, then Account. It asks you twice, and then everything we hold about you is destroyed along with the copy on your phone. We do not keep a shadow copy.
Depending on where you live you may also have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected, or to object to how we use it. Email us and we will help. We will not charge you for asking, and we will not make the app worse for you because you did.
Drop is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will remove it.
If we change how any of this works we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is a significant one, we will tell you in the app rather than relying on you to check.
